A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended with an arrest near a Home Depot store on Liberia Avenue after officers tracked down a suspect who initially fled on foot.

On March 2, patrol officers received a BOLO alert from a neighboring jurisdiction regarding a stolen white Toyota Camry. An officer later located the vehicle traveling westbound in the area of Manassas Drive and Palisades Circle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

According to police, the driver refused to stop and instead accelerated at a high rate of speed in an attempt to evade officers. A pursuit was initiated as the suspect continued to elude police while committing multiple traffic violations.

The pursuit continued into the City of Manassas before officers terminated it due to safety concerns.

A short time later, authorities received information that the stolen vehicle had crashed near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Liberia Avenue. Officers responded to the crash scene and located the vehicle, but the driver had already fled.

Police began canvassing the surrounding area and gathering evidence in an effort to locate the suspect. About an hour and a half later, an officer spotted the suspect exiting the Home Depot store on Liberia Avenue.

When officers attempted to detain him, the suspect ran, prompting a foot pursuit. Officers quickly apprehended him and took him into custody.

The suspect was identified as Diego Nicolas Vasquez-Perez of Fairfax, Virginia. Police said a juvenile passenger was also in the vehicle during the incident. The juvenile was later released to his parents.

Vasquez-Perez was arrested and charged with:

  • Receiving Stolen Goods over $1,000

  • Fleeing/Eluding Police with Willful or Wanton Disregard

  • Manufacture, Sell, Distribute, or Possess a Controlled Substance

  • Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance

  • Driving Without a License

He is currently being held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center without bond. Authorities say additional charges related to the crash will be handled by Manassas City Police.
