A shoplifting incident at a Woodbridge BJ’s Wholesale Club turned into a robbery case after one of the suspects allegedly used an eye irritant inside the store.
Police say the incident occurred on February 20 when two men attempted to leave the store with unpaid merchandise. During the attempt, one of the suspects sprayed an irritant, affecting multiple people inside. Several individuals were treated at the scene, while one person required hospital care for a non-life-threatening reaction.
After weeks of investigation, 49-year-old Rodney Johnson of Arlington was arrested on March 20 with assistance from Fairfax County Police and Virginia State Police. He faces charges including robbery, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit larceny.
A second suspect connected to the case had previously been arrested.
