A suspected shoplifting incident at a Walmart in Manassas escalated into a robbery investigation after the accused allegedly shoved an employee while attempting to flee the store.
Police said an off-duty officer working security at the Sudley Road Walmart was alerted to a shoplifting in progress. Investigators determined the suspect concealed merchandise before being confronted by a store employee.
During the encounter, the suspect pushed the employee and ran from the store toward Sudley Road. Authorities said the man managed to flag down a passing vehicle and briefly escaped the area.
The vehicle was later located, and officers detained the suspect without incident. Police identified the accused as Michael Corenelius Williams, 49, who has no fixed address. He was charged with robbery and held on a $5,000 secured bond.
