Prince William County police arrested a 35-year-old Dumfries man following a domestic dispute that led to a barricade situation at a home on Mulcaster Terrace.
Officers responded to the residence at 10:32 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic dispute. Police said a 69-year-old man was struck in the upper body with a baseball bat by a family member.
After the assault, the accused barricaded himself inside a room in the home. The victim and another family member were able to safely leave the residence, and medics treated the victim at the scene.
Police attempted for several hours to contact the accused and have him surrender peacefully. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution in case the situation escalated.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers entered the residence and detained the accused.
Following the investigation, police arrested Cody Christian Lance, 35, of Dumfries, and charged him with malicious wounding.
A court date was pending at the time of the police report.
