A serious crash occurred Tuesday morning in Bristow when a 2019 Ford F350 crossed a private railroad crossing and was struck by a southbound Amtrak passenger train. The truck, which was pulling a trailer, was hit as it traveled west on Milford Drive near Bristow Road. The collision caused the trailer to detach and the truck to overturn.
Emergency responders extricated the 54-year-old male driver from the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities noted that the railroad crossing has posted stop signs and warnings but is not equipped with lowering arms. The train was traveling at approximately 74 MPH and the conductor had sounded the horn prior to impact. The train came to a stop about half a mile from the crash site. Charges against the driver are pending.
