Starting May 1, drivers in Manassas will receive a heads-up before fines begin at a new red light camera location. The City of Manassas is installing photo enforcement at the intersection of Liberia Avenue and Richmond Avenue, but it will not start issuing tickets immediately. A 30-day warning period will run through the end of May, allowing drivers time to adjust.
This new enforcement point was selected after city traffic studies found a pattern of red light violations and crashes at the intersection. According to officials, that data justified adding a camera to help keep things safer.
Beginning June 1, 2025, drivers who run the light there can expect to get a $50 ticket in the mail. That fine won’t affect your driving record or insurance, since it’s a civil penalty, not a moving violation. However, every image captured undergoes a review process—a Manassas City Police Officer mustconfirm the violation before a citation is issued.
This is part of a broader push to reduce crashes and encourage safer driving in Manassas. There are already red light cameras up and running at a few other key intersections:
-
Liberia Avenue & Centreville Road
-
Liberia Avenue & Euclid Avenue
-
Liberia Avenue & Signal Hill Road
-
Center Street & Grant Avenue
