A 54-year-old man was arrested after investigators determined he drove through a private railroad crossing without obeying posted signs, leading to a collision with a southbound Amtrak train. John Edward Bates, of Bealeton, was driving a Ford F-350 hauling a trailer when it was struck and overturned. He was extricated and treated for non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries occurred. On May 13, Bates was charged with reckless driving.
