A significant development has been made in the ongoing homicide investigation stemming from a deadly shooting in Dumfries last month.

On April 8, detectives arrested 18-year-old Kennsington Duane Adams at his home in Dumfries with assistance from the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force. The arrest is connected to the March 9 shooting that occurred near a recreational basketball area along Potomac Shores Parkway.

Authorities say the incident began when two groups encountered each other at the courts, leading to a confrontation that escalated into gunfire. Five young men between the ages of 16 and 20 were shot during the exchange. One 18-year-old victim later died from his injuries, while the others are expected to recover.

Adams has been charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, willful discharge of a firearm in public, and concealed carry. He is currently being held without bond as the investigation continues.

Police believe the shooting was not random and are still working to determine each individual’s involvement. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact authorities.
