WOODBRIDGE, VA – A stolen vehicle investigation took a violent turn Tuesday afternoon when a suspect dragged two officers with his car before leading police on a high-speed chase.
The chaos began at 4:12 p.m. at the Summerhouse II Condos in the 1900 block of Gableridge Turn. Officers had been searching for a stolen vehicle when they spotted 31-year-old Gideon Owusu Jr. in a different car that belonged to another acquaintance.
When officers attempted to detain him, Owusu suddenly hit the gas, dragging two officers a short distance. He then crashed into another vehicle before speeding away. One officer was treated at the hospital, while the other was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
The next day, police spotted Owusu and attempted a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, he led officers on a brief chase down I-95 before Virginia State Police, with help from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, finally took him into custody.
Owusu is facing a long list of charges, including malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, grand larceny, reckless driving, and obstruction of justice. He remains in custody awaiting a court date.
