An intense situation unfolded at the Westminster at Lake Ridge Senior Living Home when officers responded to a report of a man in crisis armed with a knife. The individual approached officers while ignoring commands, prompting officers to discharge their weapons. The man then attacked a 91-year-old woman, leading officers to fire again. Officers rendered first aid to both individuals; sadly, the male, identified as 26-year-old Joseph Anthony Cassell, died at the scene. The female victim was flown to an area hospital and is expected to recover. An independent investigation by the regional Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is ongoing.
