Location: 2600 block of Logmill Road, Haymarket VA
Time: 9:30 a.m., July 11, 2026

A Springfield man is facing multiple charges after police say he attempted to break into a Haymarket home, stole property, vandalized vehicles, and later burglarized a volunteer fire station.

According to investigators, officers responded to the 2600 block of Logmill Road after a suspicious person was reported. Police determined the suspect, who was driving a stolen vehicle, attempted to enter a residence before rummaging through an unoccupied vehicle and damaging another parked at a neighboring home.

Investigators said the suspect then drove to the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad on James Madison Highway, entered the station, stole a fire department shirt, and left the area.

Later that day, Fauquier County deputies arrested the suspect on unrelated offenses. Following the Prince William County investigation, additional warrants were obtained.

Matthew Dean Ledbetter, 22, of Springfield, was charged with burglary, attempted burglary, destruction of property, grand larceny, petit larceny, and attempted petit larceny. His court date is pending.
